Each semester, Film/Media Studies sponsors a student production challenge with a specific theme and rules.  The contest is open to any current Bucknell University student.

Awards:
Winning films will be screened at the Campus Theatre on December 4th, 2012 and then featured on Bucknell video kiosks in the spring 2013 semester.

Awards are given in two categories: First place and runner-up for Film/Media Studies majors and first place and runner-up for non-majors.  Entries may be individually or collaboratively produced but only one prize is awarded per entry.

First Place: $100 cash prize plus a Kindle Fire

Runner-up: $50 cash prize plus a 1TB media drive

The theme:
Make a film that represents, depicts, or communicates ILLUMINATION—in the broadest sense—at Bucknell.

The rules:
1) The film must be exactly 60 seconds in length (titles/credits may be added after the 60-second film)
2) Each individual shot can only last a maximum of two seconds
3) Each shot must be original footage shot by you or your collaborators during the fall 2012 semester
4) All sound must be original though there are no temporal restrictions on your soundtrack (i.e. sounds can last longer than two seconds)
5) No musical soundtracks

Entries must follow the above rules or risk disqualification.

Deadlines and Format:
Entries are due Monday, November 19 by 4pm and may be turned in to the English Department, Vaughan Literature 121.  Please use the following parameters for your finished film:

Frame size:        1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720
Frame rate:        24 fps
Export format:  QuickTime ProRes 422 or H264

Entries should be turned in as a Quicktime file on a hard drive or thumbdrive (drives will be returned); please do not compress to DVD.

Judging:
Entries will be judged by the following criteria:
– Ability to communicate the idea of “illumination”
– Creative editing, cinematography, and sound design
